YORK, Pennsylvania. In July, 2007 the York County, PA court website posted a file containing the full names, addresses, home and cell phone numbers, race, social security numbers, and other sensitive information for approximately 97 people. The individuals appeared to be deputized employees of the court.
The court became aware of the breach before July 6th, 2007, and on that date President Judge Richard K. Renn issued an order to Google, Inc. to clear their caches of files containing sensitive personal information. However, as of August 20, 2007 the file was still available on the York County website. The file was removed, and Google's caches cleared by August 25th, 2007.
Both the The York Dispatch and the York Daily Record report that at least three officers have been victims of identity theft, and The York Dispatch says that one file was originally posted in "the summer of [2006]."
Individuals affected by this exposure should immediately visit www.nationalidwatch.org and search for their names, to confirm what types of personal information were exposed. NationalIDWatch.org has a list of recommended steps victims should take.
About NationalIDWatch.org
National ID Watch is a search engine for personal information breaches. Sponsored by the Washington, DC non-profit Liberty Coalition, NationalIDWatch.org provides more than a million free personalized Identity Exposure Reports™ as a public service.
Each Identity Exposure Report (IXR) documents what types of personal information were exposed (such as Social Security Numbers, Birth Dates, Addresses, etc.), without revealing them. Each IXR also details the situation surrounding each exposure, and contact information of those responsible for the breach. Armed with this information, victims can further investigate, take action, or correct harm.
